This weekend I flew with Germanwings to Berlin-Schönefeld and back and I spoke with some other passengers and everyone I mentioned Germanwings' plans to move to Maastricht because of the planned passenger tax had already heard about these plans. Even in Berlin some ILA visitors thought it would be the best option to show the government how stupid such a tax would be.
It was a very interesting experience and even now I think it might have been a kind of very nice advertisement for Maastricht Aachen Airport by Germanwings, even if these plans would never become reality. |

Not LUX cause within 125 km from Maastricht live far more Germans. And not LGG as the "Wallon" won't adept as quickly to the German language as the Dutch...
And finally Maastricht Aachen sounds already a half German Airport....but maybe we should call it Andre Rieu airport. The Germans love him even more then the Dutch do :-) _________________ The future is bright, the future is (hopefully) MST. |

The chances are becoming higher that the German "Luftverkehrsabgabe" (air travel fee) will be introduced. On short-haul flights (European flights and flights to countries around the Mediterranean) 13€ per leg and other destinations 26€
It sounds very similar to the former Dutch air tax as transfer passengers won't have to pay. Also the threat of Germanwings to deflect their base to the Netherlands again has been confirmed.

It also sounds like usual "black mail"...
Would you drive to Cologne just in order to save 13 EUR ?
At the end, be sure that if one country goes ahead with this sort of travel fee, all the others will follow. (NL and B included).
Wish to be wrong. |

Indeed. Ryanair is increasing it's price for carrying luggage in July/August by € 20 and then complaining about an extra tax of € 13. _________________ The future is bright, the future is (hopefully) MST. |

Yes, because they can keep the €20, but have to pay the 13€ to the government... that's the big difference.
But my hopes are high, that in some way Maastricht Aachen Airport will benefit of the German tax... (More Ryanair-operations or maybe even some Germanwings-operations, even some more summer charters might be possible I think) |
