About Liege Airport
Liège Airport (IATA: LGG, ICAO: EBLG), also called Liège-Bierset, is an
important cargo airport in Belgium. It was at the end of 2009 the 8th
biggest cargo airport in Europe.
Liège airport is the biggest cargo airport in Belgium and the third biggest
for passengers after Brussels Airport and Brussels South Charleroi Airport.
Liège is located in the centre of the golden triangle Paris - Amsterdam -
Frankfurt that handles 66% of European freight, 75% when taken together with
London. The airport is located in the north-west of the city of Liège, in
the east of Belgium. It is mainly used for freight operation but also serves
more than 23 destinations for passengers .
Liege Airport has 2 runway`s 23R / 05L. This runway is 2340 x 45 meters
The 2nd runway is the main runway 23L / 05R. This runway is 3287 x 45
meters, but in 2008 they start to extend the runway with 423 meters. So the
new length will be 3700 x 45 meters. There are 2 main reasons for the runway
extension : More secure for heavy loaded cargo planes and the airport is
A380 proof!

Spot 1 : Landing 23L & Taxiway C6
This spot is located at the new taxiway C6 at runway 23L. This location is perfect for takeoff or landing shots.
Now takeoff shots can be made in the line-up at runway 23L after 13:00!
For a taxiing B747 you only need about 35 mm for a side-shot.
A landing A300 requires about 90mm.
Since the runway has been extended, you now should access spot 1 from the old
road to the approach lights. This road is closed due to the runway and
taxiway extension. You can park at the closed road at the roundabout. Take
care about the security camera`s, park your car out of the side of these
camera`s to avoid problems with the security.
There’s a little hill which provides a view over the fence but a small ladder is
recommend

Spot 3 : Landing 23L & C5
This spot is located abeam the threshold of runway 23L. This location is perfect for takeoff or landing shots.
Note that you will need a slightly bigger ladder than on other airports. For a taxiing B747 you only need about 35 mm for a side-shot.
A landing A300 requires about 90mm.
Since the runway has been extended, you now should access spot 1 from the Park Inn hotel, you can park next to the hotel and walk up the hill!
There’s a little mud hill which provides a clear view over the fence, however this is slightly restricted due to some trees right of you, so you won’t be able to see the plane’s approach, therefore a 4 stepladder is recommended.
Small planes(an26, bae146) don`t use the taxiway extension to the
beginning of the runway and line up runway 23L at intersection C5.
From this point nightshots are posible!

Spot 4 : TNT Cargo Apron
This spot is at the TNT apron. In the weekend mostly all TNT`s and partner airliners are parked here. During the

evening and night.
Because of the double fences overhere you
need a very large ladder to reach over them.
Sun : From sunrise till 13:00
| |
|
Spot 5 :

This spot is located at the truck-parking south the TNT buildings. Stay

Sinds the 400 meter runway extention planes will depart earlier then before.
The sun at the taxiway in front of this spot (Taxiway S2) will be good from
approximately 11 o’clock till sunset.
In case you don’t have a ladder with you, try to shoot the landing traffic
from the road.
When runway 05 is in use for landings you’d better walk along the fence to
the South for a better shots (Plane flaring a few feet above the runway).
Because of the fences you need a 4 stepladder.

Light (and some medium) traffic will use taxiway S2 for take-off and will not backtrack the runway 05R at all! Because of the fences you need a 4 stepladder.
